Lesson 2: Module F | Communication
Lesson 2: Module F
Every decision we make influences the environment and community we build. From the words we use, the programs we build to the actions we take, it is important to take a look at each thing we do and assess how it affects our clients and patients' experience in order to build the best environment possible.
This is a continual process and involves getting constant feedback from your clients and staff. Take this feedback and implement changes to continue to improve the experience of the patient or client. If you are not moving forwards you are going backwards!
Communication is at the crux of any successful coach or clinician. The problem is most clients won’t just communicate freely. Be sure to set up multiple ways to communicate and start to learn what each client or patient's preferred way to communicate is. Then use that method.
You can never communicate too much. If you only say something once, chances are no one will hear. They say it takes hearing something 7 times before someone starts to absorb what was being said. Do not be afraid to repeat yourself. Find different ways to say the same thing.
The biggest mistake in communication is assuming what you said was heard and understood in the way you meant it. Always make sure what you say is understood the way you meant it. Have your clients repeat back to you what you were trying to say and make sure everyone is on the same page.
