“I've been curious about strength training since I was a little kid, watching my dad in the weight room. Over the years, I'd go through periods of working out with machines in a commercial gym, and I had a general idea that I was strong, but I never became consistent. I also had no idea what I was really doing and certainly had no clue about programming or working towards specific strength goals. The thought of walking into a room full of weights or working with a trainer was terrifying to me. I assumed that anyone who was a personal trainer or coach would make me feel dumb and out of shape. Even after discovering Bootcamp style classes several years ago, I was never consistent about training.
I started working with Paul about three years ago. I was scared to walk into the weight room at first, fearful I'd be in someone's way. The Resilient team literally taught me everything about the sport of powerlifting and, since then, I have competed as a powerlifter twice and am about to compete again. What began as a suspicion that I was strong has grown into one of the things I am the most confident about. Not only have the coaches brought that out in me, but I've also embarked on a transformation of myself physically and mentally and have lost fifty pounds in the process, all while continuing to improve my lifts. Needless to say, the coaches never made me feel dumb or out of shape. Not only did they teach me the technical aspects of the major lifts, but they nurtured my confidence. At times, I think they’ve believed in me much more than I've believed in myself. Even when life and other things have gotten in the way of my training, the coaches have always been there to keep pushing me forward. They have helped me build a stronger, leaner, better version of myself so that I can show up at my very best in every aspect of my life. If all of this was not enough, I've also gained a group of tight-knit friends because of the intentional, authentic community at Resilient Training Lab.” - Tina
