"I've been training with Paul for almost three years, and I wish I had found him 15 years ago. He's my 5th or 6th personal trainer or coach, but by far the most knowledgeable, helpful, and committed. Since training at Resilient Training Lab, I've had several semi-serious health concerns. My first appointment with Paul was just after being discharged from a few nights in the hospital because of blood clots and a Deep Vein Thrombosis. The Resilient team always worked within whatever limitations come with my random health issues. They also don't blame me and a lack of effort for them either despite other coaches doing so.
When I first started in fitness, I was a cardio queen. I was at my heaviest weight and took on all the cardio in the world to try and lose weight. I started teaching Spinning -- my instructor suggested it because I was there so much already. After a couple of years of this hamster wheel of cardio and stalled weight loss, I decided to start weight training to try and help boost my efforts. The concept of weight training wasn't new to me, my dad used to bring me to Gold's in the early 80s while he lifted and brought me to bodybuilding shows. So it wasn't a stretch when I decided to compete in figure before I turned 30. So I found a figure coach, and he was the first person in my little fitness world that got me comfortable and excited about weight training. But I never managed to get lean enough. So I competed in bikini/fitness a few times in my 30s. Some of it was good. A lot of it was bad. But most importantly, I learned through the process that I really liked lifting heavy weights.
About a year after my last bikini competition, I had two friends who encouraged me to meet with Paul. I'm so glad I finally listened. He's been programming my training ever since. When I started, my goal was to squat 135. Now I've hit 215, and one of my new goals is to bench 135. I also realized I like the process of training for something, so I’ve now trained for 2 powerlifting meets. They are not as glamorous as bikini competitions, but so much more fun and rewarding. Because of Paul and the Resilient team's coaching and approach to fitness, I've finally figured out I'm not training to lose weight. They’ve instilled a desire to be strong and healthy, not just skinny and pretty, and I'm the healthiest I've ever been thanks to him.” - Liz
